Profile and Settings on BookGroup
What can I edit on my Profile page on BookGroup?
On the Profile screen you can change how you'd like to be called (a display name different from your username), your username, phone number, and a bio up to 500 characters, plus upload or change your photo (up to 10MB, in a valid image format). From here there are also direct shortcuts to language, notifications, privacy, identity information, and your groups.
How do I change my email on BookGroup?
You can't. The email field shows up on the Profile screen, but it's read-only, with the note "Email cannot be changed" — it's the email used when your account was originally created.
How do I export my personal data from BookGroup?
On the Settings screen, under "Data Management" ("Gerenciamento de Dados"), there's an "Export My Data" button with the description "Download a copy of your data in JSON format." Right now, tapping that button shows a "Data export coming soon" notice — the actual export isn't available yet.
How do I delete my account on BookGroup?
On the Settings screen, in the "Danger Zone", tap "Delete Account". BookGroup asks for confirmation, warning that "this action is permanent and cannot be undone" and that all your data will be removed. Unlike other actions on that same screen, account deletion is real: once confirmed, your login is blocked immediately and the process to remove your data begins, with a notice that you'll be logged out.
How do I enable biometric/passkey sign-in in BookGroup's settings?
On the Settings screen, under "Security", if your device and browser support it, a "Register Biometrics (Passkey)" button appears, explaining that this lets you access your account with your fingerprint or facial recognition. Once registered, the screen shows "✓ Biometrics Active". If your browser or device doesn't support it, BookGroup shows "Biometrics not available on this device or browser."
What notifications can I turn on or off on BookGroup, and through which channels?
On the Notification Settings screen, you control five notification types — Mentions, Replies, Group Activity, Reminders, and Reading milestones — each with three independent switches: Push Notifications, Email Notifications, and In-App Notifications. By default, most come enabled on all three channels, except Replies (no email by default) and Reminders (in-app only by default). Any change saves automatically.
How do I enable browser push notifications on BookGroup?
On the same Notification Settings screen, under "Browser (no mobile app)", you first need to grant browser notification permission itself — a button requests that permission if it hasn't been granted or denied yet. After that, you can enable "Background realtime" (keeps the connection active even with the tab hidden) and, if your browser supports it, "Web Push", which lets you receive notifications even without BookGroup open — it requires a secure connection (HTTPS) and browser permission granted.
Who can see my public profile on BookGroup, and how do I control that?
On the Privacy & Security screen, you choose between four visibility options: "Public" (anyone can see it, without email/phone), "People who share groups with me" (only people who are in at least one group in common with you), "Selected groups only" (only members of specific groups you pick), or "User allowlist" (only the people whose IDs you list manually). The initial default is "Public".
Does BookGroup show my email or phone number on my public profile?
Only if you explicitly allow it. On the Privacy & Security screen, two separate checkboxes control whether your email and your phone number show up to other people — both are off by default. Even with these options on, BookGroup ensures the server never exposes another user's email or phone on its own, outside of that choice.
Can I change my password or enable two-factor authentication on BookGroup?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is available on the Privacy & Security screen, with a configurable 6-digit verification code. Changing a password doesn't quite apply on BookGroup, though: since sign-in always happens through a code sent to your email (or biometrics), there's no traditional password to change — the "Change Password" button still present on the screen shows that this feature is in development.
How do I update my date of birth or country on BookGroup?
On the "Identity Information" screen, you can edit your date of birth and your country at any time, with a notice explaining that this information is used to ensure access to content appropriate for your age group, in accordance with current legislation, and that any change must reflect your actual data.
Where can I find quick answers inside the BookGroup app itself?
On the "Help & Support" screen there's a Frequently Asked Questions section with direct answers about how to create a group, how to add a book, how to customize the interface, and what the Premium features are. That same screen has a "Send Email" button that takes you to the institutional site's contact form; the real-time chat button still shows "coming soon."
What can I customize in BookGroup's Customization Center?
The Customization Center lets you adjust colors (primary, secondary, background, text, and success/error/warning colors), typography (font family, sizes, and weights), layout density and spacing, the navigation menu's position and items (reorder, rename, hide, or show), and apply complete preset themes all at once. You can also explore and download themes created by other users, or publish your own. Every change shows up instantly in a preview alongside, simulating real BookGroup screens.
How do I change BookGroup's interface language?
Switching the interface language happens on the "Language" tab of the Customization Center — the same place reached through the "Language" shortcut on the Profile screen. That switch affects the app's text and buttons; it's different from the content-language filter used in the public library, which only decides which books show up, not the interface language.
